new news

here's the low-down on what's been happening with me:
-despite periodic bouts of frustration with simple tasks made complicated in french, this week i feel like i've been catching on to a bit more of the language...
-i started french classes on monday. they're absolutely so easy, but listening to the teacher speak, repeat, repeat more clearly, has actually helped so much. this is reinforcing all the things i've almost picked up. i also met one friend. she's from ontario, and also is an au pair. this is very exciting to me. we had lunch a couple times this week and swapped stories/frustrations/tips, and that was very nice.
-i play ultimate on sundays. it's three hours long. there's lots of yelling in french that i don't understand. but playing is fantastic, and a killer workout. and the people seem nice, from what i can tell.
-i'm totally pumped about the heaps of culture i can participate in for 5 euro. i got a carte culture the other day, which means i can go to the opera, the symphony, loads of chamber music, for very cheap. and all of these things are fantastic here. so i'm excited about that.
-we're going to see sigur ros in concert in paris in november. in paris. yep, that's amazing.
-i got a library card (all by myself!) yesterday, and there's a fantastic library with lots of english books and also lots of great cds to check out.
-i read mrs. dalloway this week. i feel accomplished. when would i have had the time to do that before?

ok that's all for now. miss you all. have a wonderful thanksgiving. (they don't have thanksgiving here. i think we'll have sunday brunch.)
