our last vacation was spent in ROME! i went with fraser for a week. it was amazing. i don't know where to start, so i'll list some of the things we did.
-museums: capitaloni museum, vatican museum
-sights: the colosseum, the pantheon, circus maximus, fonana di trevi, spanish steps, piazza de popolo, via appia antica, roman aqueducts, catacombs
-churches: st. peter's basilica, basilica san clemente (my favourite...several levels of excavation below the current church reveal an early christian meeting-house and a pagan ritual site), chiesa san giovanni, the sistine chapel
basically we ate gelato and pizza/pasta every day, and wandered the city, stumbling on roman ruins and excavation sites everywhere. we saw some incredible art and more marble statues than you could count. it was a lovely week, and a perfect vacation.
now to bring you up to date...recent news:
-i've received a sshrc grant, so my master's degree is fully funded! i'm really excited to start, and also thrilled that i can do that with some money in my pocket.
-fraser and many of my other friends have returned to canada for their summer jobs. i'm in france for another month, which is great, but i'm missing all of them. i'll have some quality time with the family here, which i'm looking forward to, but there's that dull ache when fraser's not here, which doesn't go away, though i'm getting used to it.
-i'll be home june 26 for trev's grad, and then will be booking it to naramata on june 29.
sorry for the condensed version of events! i'm off to have a pique-nique au parc. il fait beau et il faut profiter du soleil!
a la prochaine.
